She answers an ad for a room in the home of Hilda, an elderly British widow. Hilda and her friend Magaly become fond of Lily and—surprisingly—she of them. Lily loves exploring Toronto and working in a bookstore. But, someone is abducting and killing little girls and Lily comes to suspect one of her co-workers. When the child of another employee is abducted, Lily knows she must act. More complications ensue as Lily’s past comes back to haunt her.
